Indo-Dutch storage trunk of solid single plank construction in beautifully grained satinwood with solid ebony moldings. There is a document compartment on the inside and two large brass hinges that secure the lid to the back. The Dutch colonists of this period owned a number of chests which were primarily used for storage, but due to their striking appearance, they also served as a display of wealth by the owner.
