Indo-Dutch storage trunk of beautifully grained satinwood with solid ebony and ebonized wood moldings. There is a document compartment on the inside and two large beautiful brass hinges that secure the lid to the back. The chest rests on trestles with a flat leg and the back and large round turned feet in the front. The Dutch colonists of this period owned a number of chests which were primarily used for storage, but due to their striking appearance, they also served as a display of wealth by the owner.
